The Digital Space we find ourselves in
We find ourselves in ever-evolving landscape of digital marketing which makes the fight for authority and visibility fierce.
For wellness coaches, especially those specializing in women's health specifically, establishing credibility and trust in your niche is so important because of the amount of information overload and amount of MISINFORMATION out there.
I get it. Writing blogs can be tiresome. The amount of research that goes into one blog piece can wipe out half your work week.
As a copywriter who offers blogs (with SEO!) as part of my services, here’s my take on why blogs are more authoritative than social media, particularly for Health and Wellness practitioners.
I’ll also discuss how optimizing your blogs with SEO can further enhance your presence. Diving in!
The Longevity Argument
You know this.
Lifespans. Blogs live forever on your website and give you a boost in SEO each time you update them. Win-win.
Social media = brief lifespans.
The amount of attention you're fighting for these days and the rapid scrolling behaviour that accompany it - make it impossible to make any real impact that readers can adapt and see changes effectively.
And what happens when the 24 hours are up for your social media post? Yep, your best clients have moved on to the next piece of riveting content.
With blogs, if you have optimized them properly, they're ranking for keywords for a long, longgg time, continuously bringing traffic to your website and thus to your offers. Blogs have the chance of continuously being revisited for the information it provides.
On social media, plain and simple there isn't any form of long-term searchability and the chase of trending topics is what governs most content.
In Depth knowledge sharing : positioning you as expert
Blogs are like a canvas for Wellness Coaches and Practitioners to dive DEEP into topics.
When addressing issues like perimenopause or PCOS, your target audience seeks expert guidance - because we all know the amount of gaslighting that happens in the medical space.
Social media platforms, with character limits and content overload, can't provide the comprehensive advice your audience appreciates.
A blog allows you to share your expertise, offering research-backed valuable information, tips, and solutions in a one article making it super easy for your reader to get all the most important information about a topic, in ONE place.
Establishing Trust and Credibility
Consistency is key in building trust, and blogs excel in this regard.
By regularly publishing blogs that are packed with information and well-researched, you demonstrate your knowledge and your commitment against misinformation.
Readers come to rely on your blog as a trusted source of information, eventually sealing your status as an authority in women's health.
As a copywriter who serves women’s wellness coaches I always advice for weekly blogs as a way to establish trust and build a loyal reader base.
A pro tip here is to have a comment section on all blogs because you're getting feedback on where your reader most struggle with and obviously for generating more and more content relevant to them.
When you regularly respond to comments and interact you're automatically building a community that shares a common passion. And this sense of community builds a dedicated following.
SEO Boosting Visibility
Ahhh.... the magic of SEO.
Optimizing your blogs for search engines, increases the chances of your content ranking high on search result pages. This means that when someone searches for "perimenopause nutrition" or "PCOS management tips," your blog could be one of the first things they see.
SEO gets you targeted traffic and expands your reach to those actively seeking your services. It’s getting you in front of the right people at the point they’re searching for your solution.
For my clients in the Health and Wellness space, I typically advice at least 3 topic clusters so they never run out of blog topics and quickly establish authority in their niche.
Book a Copy Quickie (only $97) and you can get these topic clusters nailed down for your specific niche and you'll always have a topic on hand to write about.
Now let's move on to some SEO best practices for your Health and Wellness business.
How to Optimize your Blog as a Health and Wellness Practitioner
1) Keyword research
Yeah, yeah I know...everyone harps on this somewhat ineffectively when it comes to giving you an action plan (once again, my Copy Quickies are excellent for this) so here's the low down.
You need short tail and long tail keywords.
A short tail example would be: PCOS Fitness.
A long tail example would be : best exercises for PCOS. This alone gives you 10 new directions you could go in so you never run out of topics to write. Your short tail is usually repeated on all your blogs and the long tail differs based on topic but stays extremely relevant to the short tail keyword.
2) Quality information, well researched.
Quality must not be compromised because it is key to SEO success.
The more informative, engaging, and well-structured your blog posts are, the better for traffic and all that Google love to be directed at your blog + website.
When your content genuinely helps your readers, they're more likely to stay on your site and explore other articles – more huge brownie points for SEO! (Psst...this is also why topic clusters are important)
What are well researched articles? This just means you're not putting out random information - especially because you're in the Health and Wellness space, it's important your information on the blog is well backed by research (and no you don't need to cite 100 studies, keep it relevant to the topic you're discussing)
3) On page SEO
So there's on page SEO and off page SEO. For on page using your target keywords strategically in the title, headings, meta description, and throughout the content.
Go back and skim through my writing on this blog - it either mentions Health Practitioners, Wellness, Womens Health or a variation of these throughout.
One thing often overlooked by Health Practitioners is making your blog mobile-friendly, as mobile-friendliness is a significant ranking factor.
Part of my retainer services for SEO Blogs includes all the SEO bits mentioned here on top of the writing, editing and including relevant images with alt+text. And for my Monthly Booster service (where I take your already written blogs and make them SEO friendly) the editing includes making sure all keywords are used in a natural way within the blog.
4) Backlinks - you need them
I can't emphasize this enough. They're super important to build. A network of backlinks from authoritative websites significantly boosts your blog's authority.
An easy way to do it is to reach out to other dietitians / nutritionists or relevant websites in your niche for guest posting opportunities or collaborations.
If a fellow Health
5) Update like a pro!
Search engines love fresh content. LOVE.
An easy way to do this is to update blogs regularly with just a paragraph or two of new information every few months. The women's wellness space always has new updated health information coming out because it’s such a huge underserved market.
This is a great opportunity to show your readers that you’ll always provide updated relevant information to serve them. Constantly evolving yourself is a norm for all Health and Wellness coaches I know, so this wouldn’t be too much of a challenge.
All you need is one to two paragraphs of updated information, indicate the date of your blog as :updated DDMMYY and you're good to go.
For clients who are on retainers with me, I keep tabs on what’s changing and often get their opinion on it so we can quickly determine how and where to publish this new information within their blogs.
As a wellness copywriter specializing in women's health, I am always tuned in to the challenges and opportunities in your niche. If you're looking to tap into the authoritative power of blogs, optimize them for SEO (otherwise this will be a losing game), and reach a wider audience, I'm here to help.
